Dorothy Udeme Ufot, SAN is the founding partner of Dorothy Ufot & Co. a leading law firm in Nigeria. Dorothy is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators London, and a Chartered Arbitrator, qualifying in 2000 and 2003 respectively. She is a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris since 2006, Vice-President of the ICC Commission on Arbitration & ADR in Paris since 2014, Council member ICC Institute of World Business Law and Vice-Chairman of the Arbitration & ADR Commission of ICC Nigeria and Treasurer of ICC Nigeria National Committee. Dorothy is on the panels of arbitrators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre(HKIAC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre(SIAC), Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration(KLRCA), International Center for Dispute Resolution(ICDR), Lagos Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration(LRCICA), and the Energy Arbitrator’s List. She is a member of the LCIA, ICCA and the IBA. Dorothy has more than 27 years experience in commercial litigation at the trial and appellate courts, having been admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1989 and then admitted to the Inner Bar as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, (the equivalent of the English Queen’s Counsel) in 2009. She was Vice-Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the IBA (2006-2008). She has acted as an arbitrator in several complex high volume arbitrations in oil concession and production disputes, gas production and refining, LNG, International building and road construction projects, dredging contracts, infrastructure development projects, joint ventures, telecommunications, international supply contracts and financial services, to mention a few. She currently serves as a non-executive director of Dangote Cement PLC (the largest publicly quoted cement company in Africa), SO & U LTD (one of Nigeria’s premier Advertising and Media company) and has also served as a director of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Chevron Oil PLC and MRS Oil PLC.
